Photographic Style

I prefer to use as much natural light over flash as possible. Reflectors can be used to softening the shadows where needed.

I like to shoot B&W whenever the situation allows. I recently have been shooting film again with my Olympus OM-1.

When it comes to using artificial lights, my first preference is to use candles for the warm and cosy light they produce. Outdoors, I use Speedlites.

Motivation

When it comes to collaborating with on a project, I am like many artists. I am not motivated by money. If the project is interesting then achieving the best the outcome is the most important thing.

I have never done anything with money being the primary motivating factor.

Me, Myself & I

I’m an English photographer from London. I studied photography at the London School of Photography and have been published on numerous occasions.

Background

I was born at Guy’s Hospital, London Bridge, and lived in London for 30 years. I decided that I needed a new adventure so in 2000 I moved to Stockholm, Sweden. After 10 happy years there I relocated to Skåne in 2010 because of my main job.

Being a very competitive market, it was always my intention to be a part-time photographer while having a day job. Even so, my passion for photography led me to study part-time at the London School of Photography, where I specialised in environmental portraiture.

What is ‘environmental portraiture’?

Environmental portraiture involves taking photographs of individuals in authentic settings that hold personal significance to them. These settings could be connected to their hobbies, interests, work, or even their homes.

Published

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of having my photographs featured in various magazines and books. It all started with a niche railway magazine that showcased some train pictures. However, I soon realised that landscape photography wasn’t my true calling.

During the years that followed I had the opportunity to contribute to glamour and men’s magazines like Men Only, Sky Magazine, Maxim, and Loaded.

Despite having pictures published and getting commissions, photography remained primarily a hobby or a side gig for me.

Moving to Sweden

After moving to Sweden I shifted my focus away from getting published and instead concentrated on projects for local actors, musicians, models, and my own personal projects.

In 2003, I became a member of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain, and in 2005, I earned the distinction of being a Licentiate (LRPS). Additionally, in 2007, I obtained the Adobe Certified Professional certificate for Photoshop.

In 2010, I took the leap and self-published the first of three books, which featured portraits.

Today and tomorrow

I always have a number of projects ongoing, and I’m always open to collaborating with people if the project is interesting. I think we’ve reached the peak of the selfie generation, where people thought self-taken pictures were good enough to represent them, and people are recognising the value of being photographed once again.
